TECHNICAL INFORMATION      Print preparation

Information for handing-over the data

Handling

The pre-print preparation is processed on the Apple Macintosh platform. Only if absolutely necessary, also PC documents can be used (Corel up to version 11). Besides the below mentioned ones, all current materials can be used for making graphic design or print preparation (e.g. slides, photos, drawings, text) - either in written or electronic form. Due to the fact that flexographic print requires a specific pre-print preparation, it is better to have it done by the Colognia Press DTP Studio.

Types of Media

  •  CD-ROM
  •  DVD-ROM (DVD-RAM)
  •  USB flash disk
  •  + FTP transmission, E-mail (with smaller files)

Preferred software

  • Adobe Illustrator CS3 (AI, EPS)
  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 (PSD, TIFF, EPS ...,)
  • Macromedia Free hand up to version 8.0 Mac (FH, EPS)
  • Corel Draw! up to version 11 PC (CDR)
  • Adobe InDesign CS3

Important notes for processing the files!

  • Together with the graphics, it is important to supply the fonts used (or these can be transformed into curves).
  • The smallest possible size is 4 points (for the positive print in one colour).
  • In the case of more complex graphics created in Adobe Photoshop, it is helpful to supply the „resource" picture (processed in layers, if possible with help routs and masks). Bitmap files saved in CorelDraw! Are not suitable resources for further processing. Always enclose the bitmap files as separate files.
  • In compositions created in QuarkXPress, enclose all used fonts and inserted graphics.
  • In simple graphics (logotypes, signs) it is suitable to transform the fonts into curves.
  • The possible cut-out line is to be indicated by a fine line.

Dummies and colours

  • For the purpose of checking and correct processing of the supplied graphics, it is important to provide at least a black and white preview, (it can be changed in size). In the case of colour preview, this must be colour - true.
  • Caution - a copy made by a regular ink printer cannot be considered a colour sample. This can only serve as an orientation preview.
  • Before the print is started, the DTP studio of the company provides the final approval(by E-mail, fax), or digital flat proof for checking the colour scale. When printing by direct colours (most often logotypes) it is suitable to specify the colours by using the Pantone pattern - book.

Approval

Approval sheet for confirming the final form of the label by the customer. It is sent by E-mail (or fax) in pdf format (another format is possible - depending on the customer). The file contains the design of the label, its size and description of used colours. If the clients is satisfied with the version, he/she must confirm this (by E-mail, fax). Without this, the production of the label cannot be started.
